A few pics of Juan Martin at practice on Wednesday:
I was back at Queen’s club on Wednesday but this time on Centre Court:
Marin Cilic def Arnaud Clement 6-4 6-4
Not much to say about the match, but it’s nice to see a bit of volley game.
This week, I’m in London, for a bit of sightseeing …
and (of course) for a bit of tennis:
The Queens tournament (its sponsored name is currently Aegon Championships, previously: Stella Artois Championships) is one of the most prestigious ATP tournament, and one of only five played on grass (the other 4 are: Gerry Weber Open in Halle, UNICEF Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, AEGON International in Eastbourne and the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport).
I was in Paris this week end for the Roland Garros charity day and the Sunday Start. Here’s a photo recap of Sunday’s matches on the court Philippe Chatrier.
Stosur-Benesova
Solid first match by Stosur, semifinalist in 2009 and finalist here last year. She beat Iveta Benesova, ranked 52, in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Next opponent for the Australian: Simona Halep.
For once, the women’s final was more intense and more interesting than the men’s final.
A disappointing final ended a tournament rich in emotions and incredible matches: Nalbandian-Hewitt, Verdasco-Tipsarevic, Cilic-Isner, Schiavone-Kuznetsova just to name a few.
This match was supposed to be the meeting of the sport’s next two Major rivals. Instead Murray was no match for Novak , who destroyed him 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 in 2h39.
Check out the men’s final highlights and Novak’s photoshoot with the trophy.
