Live from London – Queen’s tournament
This week, I’m in London, for a bit of sightseeing …
and (of course) for a bit of tennis:
The Queens tournament (its sponsored name is currently Aegon Championships, previously: Stella Artois Championships) is one of the most prestigious ATP tournament, and one of only five played on grass (the other 4 are: Gerry Weber Open in Halle, UNICEF Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, AEGON International in Eastbourne and the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport).
From McEnroe, to Becker, Edberg and Sampras all the best grass players have won it. Strangely, every year, Roger Federer prefers preparing for Wimbledon by playing in Halle, Germany.
Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt have dominated the tournament in recent times, each winning four titles.
This year’s line-up is once again impressive: Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, Juan Martin del Potro, Fernando Verdasco and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Here are a few pics of today at the Aegon Championships.
