Fifth French Open crown for Henin?

3 years after her last match in Paris (her win against Ivanovic in the 2007 final), Justine Henin will try to conquer a 5th French Open title. A quick look back at Justine’s previous performances at Roland Garros:

Henin at Roland Garros 2010

1999: 2R Lindsay Davenport d Henin 6-3 2-6 7-5
First participation for Henin, who lost to number 2 seed Lindsay Davenport.

2000: DNP

2001: SF Kim Clijsters d Justine Henin 2-6 7-5 6-3
19 yrs old Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin established themselves as Grand Slam contender by reaching 2001 Roland Garros semifinals. Henin leading 2-1 in their head-to-head won the first set easily, but Clijsters prevailed 2-6 7-5 6-3.
In the final, Clijsters was four times within two points of winning her first GS title but lost to Jennifer Capriati 12–10 in the third set.

2002: 1R Aniko Kapros d Justine Henin 4-6 6-1 6-0
Shocking first round defeat for Henin, seeded fifth, beaten by qualifier Aniko Kapros. Justine had just won her first Tier I title in Berlin a couple weeks earlier and was one of the favorites for the title in Paris.

2003: F Henin d Kim Clijsters 6-0 6-4
Seeded number 2, Henin defeated the defending champion Serena Williams in semifinals, 7-5 in the third set. By overcoming Kim Clijsters in final, Henin became the first Belgian ever to win a Grand Slam singles title.
On 11 August 2003, Clijsters attained the World No. 1 ranking, but was beaten again by Henin in the US Open final.
Kim was the first player to be top ranked by the WTA without first winning a Grand Slam singles title.

2004: 2R Tathiana Garbin d Justine Henin 7-5 6-4
Another surprising early exit for world number one Henin, who was then affected by an immune system problem. After months of layoff because of a virus, she returned to the competition in August and captured the gold medal at the Athens Olympic games, defeating Amélie Mauresmo in final.
She lost her number ranking after her loss to Nadia Petrova in the fourth round of the US Open and decided to withdraw from the remaining tournaments of the season.

2005: F Henin d Mary Pierce 6-1 6-1
Henin returned on the circuit on March after a six month break due to a kneecap fracture. She lost to Maria Sharapova in Miami but rebounded from her defeat and won 3 consecutive clay court tournaments (Charleston, Warsaw and Berlin).
Henin saved two match points in the fourth round against Svetlana Kuznestsova then beat Sharapova and Petrova to reach the final. She captured her second Roland Garros title, dismantling former champion Mary Pierce 6-1 6-1.
Pierce took her revenge a few months after, as she defeated Henin for the first time of her career in the fourth round of the US Open. She was beaten in final by… Kim Clijsters who captured her elusive first Grand Slam title.

2006: F Henin d Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 6-4
Justine became the first French Open champion to defend her title successfully since her idol Steffi Graf in 1996. It was her third French Open title in 4 years.

2007: F Henin d Ana Ivanovic 6-1 6-2
Henin withdrew from 2007 Oz Open to deal with the break-up of her marriage and lost her number one ranking to Maria Sharapova. But she rebounded from her bad first part of the season by capturing the French without dropping a set.
By beating Ana Ivanovic in the final, she equalled Monica Seles’ record of 3 consecutive wins.
One month later, she was upset by Marion Bartoli in the Wimbledon semifinals, the only major trophy missing to her impressive collection. She then captured her second US Open title, her last Grand Slam title (to date).

2008-2009: DNP

2010: What do you think, can Justine regain her title this year? She’ll play her first round today against Pironkova.
