#TennisAid 2015: back to Uganda
We told you the story of Martin and Abel’s charity trip to Uganda last year, last month Martin went back to Uganda, to provide sports equipment and tennis lessons to children in need. Pictures and words by Martin:
This shirt was signed by the Spanish Davis Cup team (Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco, David Marrero and Conchita Martinez) who defeated Denmark last September, and put up on auction. The proceed of the auction helped fund TennisAid’s trip to Uganda:
Back with the kids in Uganda:
The moment I’ve been waiting for so long: this meeting with my favorite pupil, Siyama. The best way to start this new adventure:
Back to Bukoto with Maggie on a rainy afternoon:
Plan B on a rainy afternoon: indoor tennis in the dining hall of the Ntinda School for the Deaf. 26 kids played tennis in perfect order and discipline, these kids (all of them deaf) are magical.
The bracelet #TennisAid sold to raise money for the foundation:
Last day at the Ntinda School for the Deaf. Like last year, it’s very difficult to leave these faces. Impossible to forget.
Playing tennis near the Mandela Stadium:
Of all the beautiful things that happened to me this important and intense year with trips, recognition, change of club, countless expressions of love and where I celebrate my 25 years as a coach, I’ll take this gift: Siyama gave me his pen last year, this year he gave me his eraser and his father, like any Ugandan, loyal and grateful, gave me his Medal of Honor of the police. Exciting. These people have stolen my heart forever.
