2010 Paris Bercy Masters: third round photo recap

November 12, 2010 | Category: ATP | 4 Comments »

Monfils def Verdasco

A close close match between 2 players who have the same tactics – or non tactics: a spectacular forehand winner, an awful error, a winner, a fault, a winner, a fault…
Both players showed their technical and tactical limits in this match as neither of them couldn’t take control of the game and close the match. In the end, crowd favorite Gael Monfils wins in 3 tight sets: 6-7 7-6 7-5.

Rafael Nadal wins his 2nd Wimbledon crown, his 8th Grand Slam title

July 4, 2010 | Category: Wimbledon | 1 Comment »

Rafa dominated from first point on and defeated Tomas Berdych in straight sets 6-3 7-5 6-4. The win gave him an eighth career major title just past the age of 24. Nadal joins a list of greats that includes Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Fred Perry and Ken Rosewall. Just 5 players won more majors than Nadal: Rod Laver (11), Bjorn Borg (11), Roy Emerson (12), Pete Sampras (14) and Roger Federer (16).

The world number one struggled in the early rounds, but played his best tennis when needed, especially against Andy Murray in semifinals and Berdych in final.

I think the biggest difference between us was that when he get a chance, he just took it, you know. He give me one in the second set, one in the third set, and none of them I can, you know, bring it to my side and just made a break.
That just show how strong he is. I think it was just really about the small difference.

Next goal for Rafa: to win the US Open, the only trophy missing to his impressive collection.

Tomas Berdych and Rafael Nadal qualify for Wimbledon final

July 2, 2010 | Category: Wimbledon | No Comments »

Once again, future number 2 Novak Djokovic missed a big opportunity to qualify for a Grand Slam final. Like in Roland Garros, he benefited from an easy draw, but disappointed in the last rounds of the tournament. Berdych was simply better in every area of the game, and won in straight sets 6-3 7-6 6-3.

We always knew he was talented but so inconsistent. It seems that everything changed this year: he stunned Roger Federer in Miami and lost the final to Andy Roddick. He also reached Roland Garros semifinals last month after wins over John Isner, Andy Murray and Mikhail Youznhy.
It will be Tomas first Grand Slam final who became the first Czech player to reach the men’s final at the All England Club since Ivan Lendl in 1987, who was defeated by Pat Cash. The only Czech to win the men’s title was Jan Kodes in 1973.
Berdych’s opponent in final is Rafael Nadal, who also qualified in straight sets 6-4 7-6-4 over Brit hero Andy Murray.

2009 Davis Cup: Nadal defeats Berdych 7-5 6-0 6-2

Nadal was again a huge part of Spain’s Davis Cup title in 2008, with 2 victories against the United States in the semifinals. But he missed the finals against Argentina due to knee injury. In the absence of world number one Nadal, Ferrer, Lopez and Verdasco upset the title favorites and captured Spain’s third Davis Cup.

In 2009, Spain defeated Serbia, Germany and Israel en route to the final, where they faced Czech Republic at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. And this time, Nadal was part of the team.
