Garbine Muguruza 2019 US Open dress

adidas unveils its latest collection of high-performance wear to be worn for the final Grand Slam of the season. The NY collection is inspired by the streets of New York City and urban tennis culture. The collection will be debuted on court by adidas players including Angelique Kerber, Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Wozniacki, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

The women’s collection draws from the urban NYC aesthetic – with the NY Dress, to be worn by Garbine Muguruza and Kiki Mladenovic. The NY Tank will be worn by Caroline Wozniacki, which features an open hole mesh overlay for a stylish layering look. Angelique Kerber will wear the NY Women’s Tee, featuring open hole mesh zoning at the back to provide optimal ventilation. Both athletes will also wear the NY Skirt which is pleated and features the Streets of NYC inspired print.

In the men’s collection, Lucas Pouille, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev will wear the NY Printed Tee, featuring a stand-out glitch style print inspired by the streets of NYC. Dominic Thiem will wear the NY Polo with a modern 3 button placket and a flat knit collar in the vibrant glow green colourway.

The collection will also feature the SoleCourt shoe, offering BOOST cushioning, lightweight materials, comfort, stability and durability. The SoleCourt is adidas’ ultimate technical performance footwear. The 2019 adidas US Open line will be available online at http://www.adidas.com/tennis from August 7th.

Stefanos Tsitispas

A few minutes after Zverev, another contender was sent back home: Thomas Fabbiano overcame Stefanos Tsitisipas in a 5-set marathon 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-7 6-3. He’ll next meet Ivo Karlovic, who defeated Andrea Arnaboldi in straight sets to become he oldest player to win a match at Wimbledon since Ken Rosewall in 1975.

In the other matches today, Novak Djokovic began his title defence with an comfortable win over Kohlschreiber 6-3 7-5 6-3. 18-yr old Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched his main Grand Slam victory with a 5-7 6-2 6-4 6-3 win over fellow countryman Vasek Pospisil.

In the women’s draw, recent Roland Garros runner-up Marketa Vondrousova was beaten by Madison Brengle while Simona Halep was made to work to defeat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 7-5.
But the talk of the day was 15-yr old Cori Gauff who defeated idol Venus Williams 6-4 6-4. The young American became the youngest player to win a Grand Slam match since Anna Kournikova at the 1996 US Open and the youngest to win at Wimbledon since Jennifer Capriati in 1991!

Stefanos Tsitsipas, Estoril Open 2019

Third career title, his first on clay for Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated Pablo Cuevas 6-3 7-6.

This title means a lot to me. It’s on clay, it’s one of my preferred surfaces. It’s nice to have completed the clay-hard court title [sweep] that I’ve been fighting for. Next is grass, or maybe even more clay-court titles this year, that would be wonderful”

Stefanos Tsitsipas, Estoril Open 2019

It has been much more difficult than expected for Tsitsipas who had to fight to get past world number 214 Joao Domingues (7-6 6-4) and advance to the Estoril semifinals for the second year in a row.
Kudos to the 25-year old Portuguese who had a fantastic week with wins over Elias Ymer and Filippo Baldi in the qualifying draw and then Alex De Minaur and John Millman in the main draw.

Tsitsipas will face David Goffin for a place in the final. Goffin, who had a 7-9 record this year before entering the tournament, rallied from a set down to outlast Malek Jaziri 4-6 7-6 6-2.
Goffin and Tsitsipas already met 5 times with the Greek leading their head to head by 3 wins to 2. But the Belgian won their one match played on clay, last year in Monte Carlo. It should be an exciting match!

In the other semifinal, qualifier Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will face lucky-loser Pablo Cuevas.
The 19 yr old Spaniard, who had never won an ATP match before this week, beat Taylor Fritz, Jérémy Chardy and Gaël Monfils (in a spectacular 6-7 7-5 6-4 battle) to reach the last 4. His opponent is much more experienced: Cuevas will be playing his third semifinal of the year after Cordoba and Rio. In the quarterfinals he defeated last year’s finalist Frances Tiafoe 6-0 6-7 6-2.
