Isner after his marathon victory:

This one’s obviously going to stick with me, probably for the rest of my life. It’s better than a dream because you can’t even dream of something like this. You can dream of winning a match 22-20, maybe 34-32, but not 70-68. In the back of my mind was, as I’m sure it was with him: “I don’t want to be on the losing side of this”

Wimbledon organizers recently unveiled a plaque outside Court 18 honoring the participants of the longest match in tennis history.

A few pics of Wimbledon Court 18 I took 2 weeks ago during a Wimbledon guided tour (will talk about it soon) :

Women’s semifinals looked like first rounds, the final like a fourth round. Serena Williams is obviously the HUGE favorite to retain her title. Williams has a 5-1 head-to-head record against Zvonareva and is definitely favorite to win the final. However, Zvonareva already has a victory over Williams at Wimbledon 2010 – together with compatriot Elena Vesnina she beat defending champions Serena and sister Venus in the women’s doubles quarterfinals.

Serena’s path to the final:

Round Opponent Score
R1 Michelle Larcher de Brito 6–2, 6–2, 6-2
R2 Anna Chavektadze 6–0, 7-5
R3 Dominika Cibulkova 6-0, 7-5
R4 Maria Sharapova 7-6(9), 6–4
QF Na Li 7-5, 6-3
SF Petra Kvitova 7-6(5), 6-2

Their rivalry was listed as the third best rivalry of the past decade by the ATP, behind Federer-Nadal (of course) and Sampras-Agassi (kinda weird because they only met 6 times in the 00’s ).

In just over 6 years, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic already met 32 times (Federer and Nadal “only” met 28 times in 8 years). And they provided some intense matches: this year’s Australian Open final, the 2009 Madrid SF, the 2008 Olympic Games SF…

Rafael Nadal
Novak Djokovic

Quick facts:

– Nadal won five of eight of their Grand Slam matches.
– Nadal dominates on clay and grass, whereas Djokovic rules on hard courts.
– Nadal lead 2-1 in 2012: Djokovic won the Australian Open final on hard courts, and Nadal won in Monte Carlo and Rome on clay

In pink the Grand Slam matches, in gold the Olympic Games. You can click on the column to sort.
