Kyle Edmund, 2016 US Open

For the first time since 1968, three British male players (Andy Murray, Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans) have reached the third round of the US Open:

Said Evans: “It could easily have been different. Kyle played Gasquet. I played Ram. We both could lose those matches and could have been sat here with only Andy again. “It just happens in certain tournaments, doesn’t it, where you get through. And this week, there’s a feel-good factor. But me and Kedders have got tough matches now. We’ll see what we can do.”

Kyle Edmund faces John Isner on Friday, while Andy Murray and Dan Evans will respectively meet Paolo Lorenzi and Stan Wawrinka on Saturday.

Another good news for British tennis: Johanna Konta stormed past Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-1 to each the fourth round.

Dan Evans defeats Alexande Zverev in the second round of the 2016 US Open

Many see him as a future world number one, but Alexander Zverev has a lot of work to do (in his game and his attitude) if he wants to achieve that goal one day. He was ousted by former British bad boy Dan Evans 4-6, 4-6 7-5 2-6.

“It was probably the best win of my career,” Evans said. “The situation and circumstances, late at night, difficult mentally. To come back in the fourth and get on top was good.”
