Many people (including me) had made Andy Murray their favorite to win this year’s US Open. And it all started well in his quarterfinal against Kei Nishikori as he won the first set 6-1. But Nishikori rallied from one set down, and then 2 sets to one down to win in 5 sets: 1-6 6-4 4-6 6-1 7-5. What a roller coaster of a match!

Thanks to his win over 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, Stan Wawrinka reaches the US Open semifinals for the third time in four years. He will face Kei Nishikori who upset world number two Andy Murray.
First test for Serena Williams in this US Open and she had to fight hard and survived Simona Halep‘s comeback to qualify for the semifinals 6-2 4-6 6-3. She will face big server Karolina Pliskova.
Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber is in the semifinals of the US Open for the first time since 2011 (she lost to eventual winner Sam Stosur). Kerber dispatched last year’s finalist Roberta Vinci 7-5 6-0. She will next face Caroline Wozniacki who defeated the surprising Anastasija Sevatsova 6-0 6-2.
Andy Murray has only lost one set en route to the US Open quarterfinals. He faces Kei Nishikori today for a place in the semifinals where he could meet the winner of the Del Potro – Wawrinka match. Do you think he will win the title this year?
