Dimitrov beats Lopez, wins Queen’s title
Ousted by Ivo Karlovic in the first round at Roland Garros, Grigor Dimitrov bounced back from this disappointing defeat to capture Queen’s title. He beat Lopez 6-7 (8-10) 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (8-6) in a thrilling final.
After his victories in Acapulco (hard) and Bucharest (clay), it is Dimitrov third title of the year on a third different surface.
In the first semifinal, Dimitrov beat world number 3 Stan Wawrinka 6-2 6-4.
In the other semifinal it was a battle of the old guard: Lopez, 32 defeated Radek Stepanek, 35, 7-6 6-4.
Defending champion Andy Murray lost to the unpredictable Radek Stepanek in the third round.
It was Murray’s first tournament with new coach Amélie Mauresmo.
