2011 French Open: day one recap
I was in Paris this week end for the Roland Garros charity day and the Sunday Start. Here’s a photo recap of Sunday’s matches on the court Philippe Chatrier.
Stosur-Benesova
Solid first match by Stosur, semifinalist in 2009 and finalist here last year. She beat Iveta Benesova, ranked 52, in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Next opponent for the Australian: Simona Halep.
David Taylor, Sam’s coach:
Ferrer-Nieminen
World No. 7 and two-time quarter-finalist at Roland Garros David Ferrer needed just 85 minutes to pass through Jarkko Nieminen.
Tough match for Nieminen whose game is much more suited to hard courts.
In the stands: Mats Wilander
and Xavier Malisse:
Commentators: John McEnroe
and Brad Gilbert
Tsonga-Hajek
Empty seats on the court Philippe Chatrier:
Tsonga in one word: nonchalant. Easy win over low-ranked Hajek, but he really needs to wake up he wants to reach the second week of this French Open.
Last match on the Chatrier Court was Goerges-Johansson, but I chose to watch players practice on other courts.
