2010 Lagardere Trophy: day 1 recap

I feel like I’m back from tennis heaven: I spent the afternoon in Paris watching Lendl, Wilander, McEnroe and Edberg play. Here’s a quick recap in photos:

First match between old rivals: Ivan Lendl vs Mats Wilander. This match marks Lendl’s return to the competition.

I must say I’ve been quite impressed by Lendl and Wilander‘s playing level. Mats’ court coverage is amazing and Ivan’s forehand is powerful and precise.

It was nice to see Lendl joking and having fun on court.

Mats wins in straight sets 6-4 6-3.

Not a lot to say about the next match: Guy Forget vs Cédric Pioline. The playing level was higher, but the match was less entertaining. And well, no need to say that Forget and Pioline don’t have the same career achievements as Lendl and Wilander.

And finally, the most entertaining match, the doubles McEnroe-Edberg vs Bahrami-Santoro
Being given that Edberg is my first player and that it was the first time I was seeing him live, I had eyes only for him. And he didn’t disappoint: elegant, nice, shy, it was a pleasure to see him play.

Mansour Bahrami was his usual self, the biggest tennis entertainer.
