2 years at the Sanchez-Casal academy

First “I was there” story: Ludo at the Sanchez-Casal academy.

I went to the Sanchez Casal and stayed there for 2 years for different reasons.

The first one is because the academy is in Barcelona, Spain, which is not only a very sunny city which allows you to train outside during the whole year, but it is also a very nice and pleasant city for living.
Another reason that influenced my choice was because the academy had facilities such as hard courts, clay courts, synthetic grass courts, a gym and also a swimming-pool which I can assure you it’s perfect for relaxing after a long and tough day of practice under a blazing sun).

During my stay over there I’ve seen and met a lot of different players.
Some who were training there full-time, such as: Svetlana Kuznetsova, Andy Murray, Gilles Muller, Elena Bovina, Carlos Moya, Flavia Pennetta, Gorka Fraile (a very good former top 100 Spanish player and also a good friend of mine), Joan Ballcells (one of our teachers) and of course Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.

But also other players who came to train there punctually, like: Rafael Nadal, David Nalbandian, Guillermo Coria, Dimitri Tursunov, Alex Corretja, Hicham Arazi, Younes El Aynaoui and Feliciano Lopez.

One of the classics of the academy was the Christmas Parties that were organized at the end of every year. All the players, coaches and academy staff would get together for that evening in order to spend some extra time (for once) outside the courts. First there was a dinner organized by the academy and after dinner, the place would turn into a big discotheque where everyone would start partying and dancing until 1 or 2 in the morning, or even until dawn for the most courageous of us.
